Special Education
In partnership with Eaton RESA, Island City Academy offers a continuum of special education programs and services for students who are eligible under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Special education staff includes special education teachers, school psychologists, school social workers, speech and language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, other related service providers, and support staff. Our staff members provide instruction and support for our students with disabilities through the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) process.

Determination of a Specific Learning Disability
Island City Academy uses the pattern of strengths and weaknesses model for the determination of a learning disability in the following areas:

- Reading Fluency
- Math Calculation
- Math Problem Solving
- Written Expression
- Listening Comprehension
- Oral Expression
In determining whether a student has or continues to have a specific learning disability, Island City Academy complies with all applicable federal regulations and state rules.
